EAST COBB
11U MUDCATS

Return to East Cobb Baseball
In 1996 Joe Grosse, Paul Gabe and Jeff Stern had the opportunity to leave Recreational Baseball behind and coach an 11 year old travel ball team. They found Moores Mill Baseball, and a field next to an American Legion hall. Since the field flooded everytime it rained, the nickname Mudcats (after the Carolina, formerly Columbus, GA Mudcats) and the Moores Mill Mudcats were born.
Moores Mill was home to some future Major League Ball players. The 11U Mudcats had 10U Dexter Fowler playing Center Field. We played a couple of 12U teams with 3B Jeff Francouer, C Kyle Davies, and CF Nick Markakis on their roster.
In 1997 the 12U team went to a new tournament in upstate New York, held on six fields at Cooperstown Dreams Park. We lost in the finals to Chet Lemon's Juice.
In 1998, with the original team now passed on to a new set of coaches, Joe Grosse, Jeff Stern and Chalie Boynton started a 9U Mudcats team. They played in the summer of '98 and became full time as a 10U team in 1999, which included a trip to Coperstown Dreams Park which now had a week for 10U players.
While the teams competed for a big win at the end of each year, in 2002 they won their first National Championship.
